A small selection of portrait photographs for Know The Origin taken in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2016 with some of the members of the National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF) trade union. Many were survivors of the Rana Plaza disaster which occurred on April 24, 2013, in Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh and resulted in the deaths of 1,134 people. Additionally, over 2,500 people were injured, many of them severely. It remains one of the deadliest industrial disasters in history. Members continue to bravely campaign for systemic changes in the way garment workers are paid and treated and provide a crucial ongoing sense of community for one another as they continue to process the aftershocks of the disaster.
